The Pella Boys’ Soccer Team returns 13 of 20 varsity members of the 2014 season for this upcoming season. Notable losses include Anthony Bentzinger, Sagit Rethmeier, and Noah Clayberg. Bentzinger, who scored 11 goals for the Dutch, graduated. Rethmeier moved to Mexico, and Clayberg is out with a foot injury. Also not graduating but still not returning is Duncan Brumwell who played defense for the Dutch in the 2014 season. He is also out due to injury.

The Dutch finished last season in the second round of the sub-state playoffs after losing to Grinnell in a penalty shoot-out. This season their motto is “back to work,” and their goal is to finish the season better than last with a state qualification spot. The Dutch face a tough conference with returning state champions, Norwalk, leading the pack. The conference also holds always strong DCG, and fierce rivals Oskaloosa and Newton. The Dutch ended their Little Hawkeye Conference title streak as Norwalk ran away with it. The Boys’ Soccer team placed second at their home tournament with a loss in the final to a strong 3A side, Southeast Polk.

The Dutch returns all three captains this year including leading goal scorer, senior Seth Johnson. Also returning is captain, junior Will Warner, who scored 8 goals for the Dutch last season. Senior Captain Ryan Whichhart also returns for the Dutch in the defense. Other returning members include starting goalkeeper: Chase Petty; midfielders: Sawyer Burton, Christian Hamilton, Reid Leidigh, and Jonathan Tiskevics; defenders: Logan Heerema and Todd Van Dyke; and attackers: Andre Hernandez and John-Michael Zalcburg. The Dutch kick off their season in Winterset on Thursday against Winterset.
