Flu season is amongst us and knowing the students of Pella High, the majority of students have already been sick once this school year. Here are a few tips and tricks from WebMD to give the flu the boot:
Drink fluids, drink fluids, and, you guessed, it DRINK FLUIDS. Having the flu can make you really dehydrated, and when you’re dehydrated, you aren’t going to get better. If you don’t like the taste of water, try juice or a drink with electrolytes, but stay away from drinks with caffeine.
Have some good ol’ hot soup. Some doctors did a study about how soup can help with the upper respiratory symptoms you have with the flu. They said when you lean over a bowl of soup, the steam helps clear those symptoms.
Stay home from school. If you don’t feel good, but you have a test that day, stay home and make it up later. That’s one of the reasons why we have SMART lunch. All you’re going to do is get more people sick, and we don’t have window cranks to let that sickness out, so eventually, it’ll get back to you. All jokes aside, if your body is telling you no, you probably shouldn’t go.
Take some meds: If you absolutely have to go to school, you should show up prepared. Take some medicine before you get to school, like DayQuil, and bring cough drops. The school’s tissues aren’t the greatest either, so bring your own. Dress comfortably because your body needs to relax.
Go tenting: Boil a pot of water and pour it into a bowl. Once you are done with that, put a towel over your head and the bowl. This should help lose any crud you have in your body.
If these tips don’t help you and your symptoms persist for more than two weeks, you should ask your doctor what to do. Make sure to wash your hands and sneeze into your elbow. Stay healthy!
