Dollars for Scholars Accepting Applications

Dollars+for+Scholars+Accepting+Applications

Pella Dollars For Scholars is accepting applications for scholarships. Applications will be accepted until February 28. The mission of Dollars For Scholars is to provide high school seniors with an opportunity for post-secondary education.

“It’s great to be a part of a community organization whose sole purpose it to help students in the Pella school district get funding for post-secondary education, whether that is a trade school, community college, or a four year institution,” said Dale Deur, the President of Pella Dollars for Scholars.

The Pella Dollars for Scholars board meets once per month and discusses fundraising opportunities and other goals, such as advertising and application overviews. It is a non-profit organization, that local businesses and establishments can donate to and participate in. Pella Dollars For Scholars hopes that more students will get involved, so each student will have an opportunity to attend college at a lower price. You must be senior to apply for a scholarship. Accredited schools only are acceptable for scholarships. This means that trade schools, beauty schools, and business schools are also acceptable for scholarships, as well as public and private colleges. However, they must be accredited, and follow local and state laws.

“Dollars for Scholars not only provides funding for students, it also provides a vehicle for people and organizations in the community to band together and make their hard earned dollars available to students in the Pella community who wish to further their education beyond high school,” said Deur. “This helps to build a better trained, more qualified pool of future employees for businesses both in and outside of the Pella community. A better trained and educated workforce is a building block for a stronger, more stable community.”

Seniors at Pella High have an account for Dollars For Scholars. Although they do not necessarily have to apply for a scholarship, they have an account they can use. However, seniors must attend meetings when held at the Pella High School. Senior Jenna Murphy appreciates the opportunity provided by Pella Dollars for Scholars.

“I’d say it’s [Dollars For Scholars] a good thing,” said senior Murphy. “Because it helps anybody wanting to go to college to get money.”

Pella Dollars For Scholars hopes that more students will get involved, so each student will have an opportunity to attend college at a lower price. You must be senior to apply for a scholarship.

“If you apply, you are 100% guaranteed for a scholarship. All you have to do is write a thank you [to the business that has donated for you],” said Jody Mansueto, a member of the Pella Dollars For Scholars. “The minimum scholarship award is $300.”
