The girls’ varsity has made it to state for the past 2 years, and Ferebee placed 1st this year. State took place in Fort Dodge on October 28th.
Sophomore Marissa Ferebee said, “In sports, the main goal at the end of the season is to take your team to state. As returning state champions, it was our goal from the start to make it to state and pursue a championship environment. We worked really hard as a whole team this season to prepare us for state and give us our best shot at Fort Dodge.”
Individually, Ferebee had to take care of herself to be prepared for state.
“In the week leading up to state I prioritized sleep, as that is how my body recovers the best. I also made sure I was stretching and priming my muscles. I didn’t eat anything out of the normal for me as I have a super sensitive stomach when it comes to running,” said Ferebee. “Lastly, I just made sure that I didn’t start worrying about the race too much the week before.”
Ferebee said that she was very thankful for the opportunity, her teammates, her coaches, and her family and friends for supporting her through the entire way. “I wouldn’t be here without them.”
