Track Season 2017

Track+Season+2017

Track season is quickly approaching; both the boys’ and the girls’ track teams started practices on February 13.

Last year, the boys placed first at the 3A boys state track meet, and the girls placed second as runners up of the girls 3A state track meet. After that successful season, expectations are high for this season.

I’m looking forward to having another successful season of Lady Dutch Track. This is a phenomenal group of girls to work with because they all have such great attitudes and make coaching them a wonderful experience,” said Head Coach Dak Rasmussen.

Rasmussen hopes the girls show improvement constantly as the season goes on. The team’s goal this season is similar to past seasons’ goals, to win both conference and district meets as well as to perform at their highest level possible at the state meet.

“We encourage positive attitudes and a team-first mentality,” said Rasmussen. “Our team works incredibly hard, but there are many opportunities during the course of practice where our athletes have a chance to be social and bond as a team. When we work as one, we can be very successful.”

Senior Zion Miller has been a member of the boys’ track team since his sophomore year. This season, Miller is looking forward to getting to run with the other guys, setting goals and breaking records. His advice to new members is to listen to the coaches and learn the techniques they teach you.  He also encourages new members to put in effort outside of practice.

“Track was the best decision I made in high school, and I would encourage anyone who is looking for a sport to participate in to give track a try,” said Miller.
