Values of our Generation

Values+of+our+Generation

Gen Z, Millennials, Boomers, we’ve all heard of them, but with the decade coming to an end, the Gen Z kids are all growing into adults, this includes high schoolers at PHS. Learning what to truly care about is becoming a priority. Being described as realistic, unique, ethical and fiscally responsible, the later generations are starting to see what this maturing generation is like.
Being fiscally responsible is one of Gen Z’s greatest strengths. According to a study by McKinsey and Company, saying 70% of Gen Z said they live pragmatically. Another 65% said they are constantly aware of what is going on around them. They are realistic and 71% say having a formal (or registered) job is important in their life.
Being educated in politics is also an important thing for Gen Z. This goes along with being very open minded in all aspects of politics, acceptance, and religious views. Supporting major movements such as #MeToo and Black Lives Matter were both events that members of Gen Z were very passionate about.
Gen Z has very open views compared to previous generations, especially surrounding feminism, transgender rights and same sex relationships. Being accepting is a large part of who Gen Z is. With statistics showing the value of open beliefs, such as 53% of Gen Zers saying they would support same sex marriage no matter the circumstance. 60% also said they believe adoption rights should allow same sex couples to adopt. Valuing individuality while caring about equality are two of the most important things to Gen Z. The values are just as important to the generation as technology has been.
Being the first fully digital generation means Gen Z has never known life without technology. Growing up with a DS, iPod, or Wii technology has been around for the entire life of Gen Zers. As technology keeps advancing, the value of advancement increases. Gen Z is continuing to focus on how to keep technology recent as it becomes the future.
The future of our world is in Gen Z’s hands, and they are striving to advance our society. Gen Z is fiscally responsible, open minded and fully digital. The previous generations like Millennials, Gen X and Baby Boomers are starting to have faith in Gen Z. As the generation ages, the values are becoming more and more important. As we will soon see Gen Z bring them into society.
