Athlete Spotlight: Adam Sievers

Adam Sievers has been running competitively his whole life, and is now one of Pella’s best runners. I recently sat down with Sievers to ask him some questions regarding this year’s cross country season, which came to an end on November 1.

Q: About how many hours do you practice a day?

A: 3:30 to 5:30, do the math.

Q: What type of music pumps your adrenaline before you run?

A: I don’t often listen to music, but our team song “Fix My Eyes” by King & Country really gets me excited to run.

Q: What do you enjoy most about cross country?

A: I enjoy making new friends and participating in the sport where the coaches support you and encourage you all the time. I also enjoy running in general.

Q: What school gives you the most competition?

A: Our school gives us the most competition. It is all friendly and in good nature, and it helps push us to do our very best during practices, so we can compete at the highest level during races.

Q: What makes you keep running? What do you think about while you run?

A: I have found an enjoyment in running since the beginning, which may sound odd to many, but my passion, drive, and wonderful teammates and coaches keep me running. We often talk on our runs, when we aren’t out of breath, and our conversations are always quite interesting and amusing. Shout out to Nick “Bern” Bernhagen for some of the most amusing and delightful conversations possible.

Q: What makes you a better runner than others?

A: Running during the summer and putting in training during the off season helps to better prepare yourself for the XC season. It helps create a strong base from the beginning only to allow you to build off of throughout the rest of the season.

Q: How do you think you’ll compete at your future meets?

A: Hopefully well, but with proper training and excellent coaching, the sky’s the limit.

Q: What were your best times and places in races?

A: Districts 8th place this year would be, in my opinion, my most impressive finish going 16:58 while my P.R. (personal record) was at Marshalltown this year with 16:50.

Q: How did you do at state?

A: Not as well as I was hoping, but not too bad. Not a P.R., but still a solid race with great experience against outstanding competition.

Q: How did your team do at state?

A: Our team did really well. The seniors all had exceptional races, ending with the boys in 3rd place and the girls in 6th.

Sievers will be back in action next year for the cross country team.
