Senior Ana Cobzac, a foreign exchange student from Moldova, has created a fundraiser to help raise money for Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines by selling ribbons. She has a committee consisting of seniors Amber Morgan, Sarah Downs, and Sophie Streichert along with sophomore Olivia Vanderleest and junior Ally Pronina. This committee helped her make the ribbons on the morning on Feb. 25 at Smokey Row. Right now, the ribbons are on sale for 3 dollars at the office.
One side of the ribbon is red, and the other side is white. They went on sale March 1 and will be on sale until April 5. This represents hope in Romanian culture. There is a Romanian folk story behind the ribbons. To hear it, check out the video!
“My favorite part about this is that I have a chance to help children from the hospital by sharing my own culture,” said Cobzac. “I love when I see students in the hallway with ribbons attached to their backpacks. It makes me feel proud that students are also interested in helping others.”
