Lady Dutch Qualified For Individual and Team State Tournament

Juniors Blom, Else, and Van Dusseldorp will compete in Waterloo at the individual event state tournament on May 26-27.  Blom earned the No. 2 seed on her way to the semi-finals. With a 6-1, 6-1 victory, she qualified for the state tournament for the third consecutive year.

She then advanced to the regional final, where she defeated Kailyn Zugay of Ballard, 7-5, 6-0, to become the regional champion.

Blom qualified in the singles, while the duo of  Else and Van Dusseldorp qualified in the doubles contest.

The Pella girls also qualified as a team with a 5-3 win over Pella Christian. Blom, Else, and Van Dusseldorp will then join Claire Smock, Mallory Westerkamp, and Bryn Higgenbotham to compete in the team state tournament on May 30 at Waukee Northwest.If an injury were to happen, Sydney Namminga and Kytilin Plate are the alternates.

The Pella girls won three of four tiebreakers at the regional tournament, aiding their win against the Eagles. Among these tie breakers, junior Alloree Else battled against PC’s Claire Vander Molen, in a tense match. Following 6-1, 4-6 sets, Else would bounce back from 2-7, and would win the tiebreaker, 14-12.

“I’m looking forward to playing in the state tournament. I’ve seen my other teammates play, but I haven’t been able to,” Else said. “It’s really exciting to be able to after seeing it for two years,”
