For the first time ever, every state individual qualifier was from a single school, Pella High. Pella went into the contest being #1 in 1A, and swept all four individual spots available to qualify.

“It felt surreal. We were very close last year, so we knew it was possible. When we saw the district lines, it kind of became our goal,” said assistant coach Stephen Van Gorp, who will be leaving the district at the end of the year. “I’m sad to miss out on next year, but still excited that I get to be involved with Dutch tennis one more year.”

Junior Ben Van Gorp defeated teammate Beau Bush for first place in singles.

In doubles, Jack Briggs and Joshua Roozebom won, with Cashen Thompsosn and Cameron Rowe being the runners up.

All six members will compete in the state individual tournament in Waterloo on May 23-24.

They will also compete together in the state team tournament in Iowa City on May 31-June 1.
