Tulip Time Court Nominees 2019

Tulip+Time+Court+Nominees+2019

Kaylin Vos

Nominee Bio

I’m involved in AcaPella show choir, marching band, the school musical, All-State singers, and National Honor Society.
Outside of school, I love to sing, read, travel, and make art (bad art, but still art!).

How are you preparing for the competition or coronation?

The biggest challenge of the competition for me is the mental part. I am anxious to present in front of such a large crowd, and right now, I am just praying and trusting that whatever happens, I’m not alone.

What talent or performance are you planning on or thinking of doing?

I’m planning on showcasing some singing and perhaps even some piano playing. Music is such a huge part of me that I couldn’t think of doing anything else!

Why would you like to represent Pella at Tulip Time?

I’ve always loved Pella’s rich history. Pella is proof that if things don’t go right in our lives, we have the power to change them. Our ancestors faced many challenges in the Netherlands, and they faced many to get here. However, they struggled through and founded this town, our home. Thanks to their faith and bravery, we are incredibly blessed in so many ways. I want to be able to show that to the world.

Camryn Huyser

Nominee Bio

I am involved in marching band as a second-year color guard captain, student council, student ambassadors, and National Honors Society. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, attending youth group, exercising at Crossfit of Pella and volunteering at local organizations.

How are you preparing for the competition or coronation?

I am working on my public speaking skills to prepare for the competition.

What talent or performance are you planning on or thinking of doing?

I am planning on giving a speaking presentation. I will incorporate aspects of my life into my presentation that I feel will help the judges and the audience get to know me better.

Why would you like to represent Pella at Tulip Time?

I have been participating in Pella’s Tulip Time for as long as I can remember. I have been a spieler, volunteered at food stands, sat at barricades, and guided and have ridden on floats. Being a member of the Tulip Time Court is an opportunity to raise awareness about Tulip Time, and to bring more people to the festival and the community. This is an opportunity to help and serve the community I love.

Maggie Renaud

Nominee Bio

I’m livin’ the dream at Pella High School. I enjoy being a part of the theatre and the track team, as well as being secretary of the Advanced Choir, senior class in Student Council, and the Speech team. I am a large fan of Netflixing in a pile of blankets with pizza in hand. Pretending to be athletic is also a hobby of mine, as I’m commonly found in the weight room after school.

How are you preparing for the competition or coronation?

I’m brainstorming ideas on how to showcase what I have to offer to the community with a memorable performance. Physically, the only thing I’m going to change is my hair; I really need a good trim!

What talent or performance are you planning on or thinking of doing?

I’m hoping to share things people don’t know about me; for example, the weekend before Top 12 I’ll be onstage in “The Sound of Music,” so people will be aware of my love for theatre. Right now I’m still deciding whether to incorporate my Africa trip or my running career and its impact on my life.

Why would you like to represent Pella at Tulip Time?

I delight at being able to meet new people within the community and helping them in any way possible. Serving others is something I constantly look forward to and being part of the court would create the perfect opportunity for both of these things!

Rebecca Piersma

Nominee Bio

In high school, I’ve been very heavily involved in our choir programs. Freshman year I was in BRAVO, and for the remaining three years, I have been in Acapella. I love performing and being involved in all our choir ensembles. I also have a passion for dance and have been involved in that for most of my life. This year I was even asked to choreograph the school musical. I am also in the National Honors Society and love history and English classes.

How are you preparing for the competition or coronation?

I am mentally preparing myself for all of the work and commitment. I am also making sure that I am ok with whatever happens. I don’t want to get my hopes up or get too excited. I want to be happy for whoever gets on Tulip Court this year if that’s me or not.

What talent or performance are you planning on or thinking of doing?

For my presentation, I am just going to talk about me. Throughout my life, mission trips have always been the most influential and beneficial times for me. So I thought that I would talk about what I brought back from each mission field I’ve served on.

Why would you like to represent Pella at Tulip Time?

I would like to represent Pella because it’s my town and heritage I’ve always loved learning about. I think it’s pretty amazing how much we know about how our town came to be, and since I love history, learning about the town I live in was always so interesting to me. Growing up I’ve just always loved the thought of getting to represent Pella on the Tulip Court.

Olivia Vander Leest

Nominee Bio

I am involved in student council, choir, show choir, am involved in church camps and youth group, and have been on the golf and tennis teams. I enjoy reading, drawing, watching Parks and Rec, and drinking lots of coffee.

How are you preparing for the competition or coronation?

I have been brainstorming ideas for what I would present/what would be the theme of my presentation. I also need to figure out how I will incorporate props into my presentation for the coronation and have been talking to some of the other nominees about what they are planning.

What talent or performance are you planning on or thinking of doing?

I am probably going just to show some artwork that I am proud of along with talking about some things in my life that truly represent who I am as a person.

Why would you like to represent Pella at Tulip Time?

I have wanted to do this ever since I was little and watched all of the Tulip Time parades with my family. I never missed a day of the festivities, and it would be so fun to get to share my love of Tulip Time with everyone that comes to Pella and all of the residents that are already here.

Ellie Kane

Nominee Bio

I am a football manager, and outside of school, I like to hang out with my friends and family.

How are you preparing for the competition or coronation?

Mentally I am thinking about how I will present my speech and just trying to calm myself, so I won’t be so nervous.

What talent or performance are you planning on or thinking of doing?

I’m thinking of doing a monologue, but I’m not 100% sure.

Why would you like to represent Pella at Tulip Time?

I have lived in Pella all my life, and I have been to every Tulip Time, and in being on the court will give me another perception of Tulip Time and being able to represent my hometown would be such an honor.

Emily Schreur

Nominee Bio

Outside of school, I love to draw and different crafts. Along with art, I love to travel. I have been on a mission trip to Mexico 3 different times, and when I’m older, I would like to travel to other countries as well. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

How are you preparing for the competition or coronation?

I’m going in with an open mind. I don’t want to stress myself out because this whole experience is supposed to be fun.  I am just trying to stay calm and practice my speech to make it the best it can be.

What talent or performance are you planning on or thinking of doing?

I am planning on giving a presentation about some of the things I value in my life. I will also touch on some of my interests, hobbies and the things I am passionate about.

Why would you like to represent Pella at Tulip Time?

The community of Pella has done so much for me throughout my life, and I want other people to know about it. To be an ambassador for Pella would be so cool because I would get to share the history of my town that I love.
