The past two years Pella High School football team has won two state titles in a row. The question on everyone’s mind is how is our football team is going to do this year.
“I think we will be competitive in every game we play,” said Head Coach Jay McKinstrey.
This year the Pella High School Football team is coming back strong with seniors from last year’s team, juniors, and four sophomores coming up from the JV team. The varsity team this year will be made up of sixteen seniors, eighteen juniors, and four sophomores. McKinstrey said that he believes the team is ready to step up and play well.
“I think our guys understand the importance of working together. We are going to have to work together to be competitive,” said McKinstrey.
Also working together is a great way to help the team bond and have a great football season. Senior Ryan VanMaanen is playing his last year of high school football.
“I feel that football has been such a positive influence on my life, and I will carry what it has taught with me in the future,” said Ryan VanMaanen
For this year’s season, the football team has put in a lot of hard work to get ready. During practice they have spent time learning and practicing game schematics for their games in the upcoming future. They have also spent the whole summer weight lifting to get fit for their games in the future.
“I believe we have a chance, but there are many variables that go into making it to the dome,” said McKinstrey.

- How does it feel that it is your last year playing high school football?
I feel that football has been such a positive influence on my life and I will carry what it has taught with me in the future.
- Do you believe this year they team will make it back to the Dome?
I do believe we will make it back, we are going to give everything we can to be 3 times state champions.
- How is the team functioning as a whole is is a well oiled machine?
Our team is really working well together, we have a really good flow.
- Do you think you guys are ready to play football.
We have been preparing sense summer time and all the hard work we have put in will pay off in the long run.
