The Pella FFA Chapter hosted sub-districts at Vermeer Company yesterday on the 20th of February. This convention was usually held at Pleasantville High School until Monty Collins, the head of FFA at Pleasantville, and others decided that it would be better to host it at Vermeer Corporation since they believed it was a better venue for the event.
“Vermeer offered, and we think that it is important for FFA to partner with local business as much as possible,” stated Ag teacher Jacob Bowers.
There are 15 schools in Pella’s sub-district including Pella, Pleasantville, Cheriton, Moulton-Udell, Twin Cedars, Knoxville, Centerville, Lynnville-Sully, Cee Monroe, Wayne, Maryavia, Melcher-Dallas, SouthWest Warn, and Albia. These schools attended this event and competed in various categories.
The different events were Ag Broadcasting, Ag Issues and Perceptions, Ag Sales, Experience the Action, FFA Creed Speaking(Freshmen Only), Conduct of Meetings(Freshmen and Sophomore Only), Greenhand Quiz(Freshmen Only), Welding, Chapter Activity Exhibit, Extemporaneous Speaking, Reporters Scrapbook, Job Interview, Parliamentary Procedure and the Chapter Quiz. Tours of Vermeer Corp. were also offered.
“The best part is the people. The experiences are great, but the people you meet are unforgettable,” said senior Chandler Jahner.
Sub-districts started at Noon and went until 4:30 on February 20. It was estimated that around 450 people attended this event, and it was open to the public. District Contest will be held on March 4 all day at Centerville High School, and State Contest will be held on April 10 all day at Iowa State University.
