Senior Zoe Card has been a member of the Pelladium Staff since freshman year. Card has mainly focused on the operation and management of the Pelladium website. She will be moving on from her role during the spring semester this year, as she continues on to new ventures, as an Iowa House Legislative Page. Card will be the first Pella High student to work at the Iowa Capitol building since 2014.
“Paging allows me to see a potential career that I’ve dreamed about for a long time. It allows me to see the legislative process one on one, which not many people have the opportunity to do,” said Card.
As a legislative page, Card will work with representatives from the Iowa House of Representatives throughout the week. Card also received the honor of the Legislative Minority Page, she will be directly working with Minority Leader Todd Prichard and assisting the representative during the 2020 session.
“I hope to gain connections with legislators and to start a new chapter,” said Card. “I’m hoping to gain more independence next semester before college starts, but I’m really gonna miss my friends in Pella at school that I normally see everyday.”
The Iowa Congressional Page Program is available for all high school seniors in the state who wish to apply. There is no cost for the internship, but pages must be able to travel or live in Des Moines, so that they can reliably be on time and ready to work. Zoe Card will be greatly missed on staff here at the Pelladium, but we are excited about the great work and new adventures she is embarking on. Good luck Zoe!
