    Jupiter Ascending Review

    Jupiter+Ascending+Review

Jupiter Ascending is a Sci-Fi movie that follows the life of Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis), a reincarnation of an alien royal. It follows a beloved storyline about a power struggle for the fate of Earth with both a dark twist and a little love. Jupiter has a very specific set of genetics that is the exact same as a royal who was over nine million years old when she died. Caine (Channing Tatum) is a genetically engineered hunter sent to locate and retrieve Jupiter. If she is found, the main villain, Balem (Eddie Redmayne), will lose a portion of his inheritance, which in his crazy family includes the Earth. There were a few things that bothered me, but overall it was a good movie.

Jupiter Ascending had pretty good graphics. I loved the how real the gravity boots were and the battle scenes between two different ships were very well created. I also really liked the plot of the story. It reminded me somewhat of Gladiator in the way that power was passed onto someone who didn’t expect it, and was sought out by someone who wanted that power. This brings us to the topic of our main villain, Balem Abraxas.

Although I loved Eddie Redmayne as Marius Pontmercy in Les Miserables and can’t wait to see his performance as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, I’m very disappointed in his performance in Jupiter Ascending. I had troubles hearing what he was saying because he whispered over half of the time. When he wasn’t whispering, he was unnecessarily shouting. Was this his own doing? Was it something the directors wanted? Either way it wasn’t a good choice. Another thing that sorely disappointed me was the lack of alien butt Jupiter kicked. True, she did beat on a character towards the end, but I feel like throughout the whole thing she was always physically relying on Caine. She did have a very strong personality and opinions, which did somewhat make up for it.

Finally, does it say in Channing Tatum’s contract that he has to go shirtless for an entire scene? It made sense at first for his shirt to be off when he was in the house with all of the bees because he had hurt himself and was bleeding near the stomach, but after he had been treated he just kept walking around without a shirt.

In conclusion, Jupiter Ascending is a good movie with a good plot with some kinks that weren’t worked out.
