The Dutch started their seasons off with some hard competition at Norwalk, North Polk, Fort Madison, and Washington. Despite a rough start, Coach Derek Schulte is optimistic about the season.
Q: What are you doing to prepare the varsity boys for their basketball season?
A: Before we started practice we had multiple open gyms. We can’t coach before November 13th. We also had the guys in the weight room, lifting with each other.
Q: What is your coach and team philosophy? How do you incorporate this into the training?
A: Our team slogan is “team together.” It embodies what we want our players to be about, and therefore, it is what we strive for on and off the court.
Q: What expectations do you have for your players?
A: We are trying to pursue excellence in the classroom, as players, and as people.
Q: What are you looking forward to this season?
A: I think the thing you always look forward to is the relationship with the players, the development of how you see a team come together and figure out different roles. Then take on the challenges of one of the best conferences and schedules in the state. That way we get this opportunity to play highly competitive games in a fun environment. We can’t wait to get started.
