Senior Nathan Clayberg signed his letter of intent to attend Drake University Feb. 6. Clayberg plans to participate in football and study actuarial science with future plans of entering the business world.

“Drake holds a Scholarship Day where prospective students are welcomed to come and present their essay as well as participate in an interview where they then give out 10 full tuition scholarships and six full ride scholarships,” said Clayberg.

Clayberg has yet to meet his future teammates but will attend the Drake spring game where all commits will be introduced to one another.

“I report to camp Aug. 5 but will be doing some off-season training on my own in order to prepare for the upcoming season,” said Clayberg.

A big part of Clayberg’s college making decision was staying close to home in order to attend his younger sibling’s sporting events, one of them being his younger brother’s (sophomore Noah) football games.

“Drake redshirts almost all freshmen, so odds are next year I will be free on Fridays and Saturdays. Expect to see a round-bodied familiar face in the stands as the Dutch win a state championship,” said Nathan.

Not only is Nathan coming back to watch Dutch football on Friday nights for his blood brother, but also to support his brothers he made throughout previous seasons and to support the program that meant so much to him.

“Going to Pella has set the bar of excellence very high, and playing football here has set it even higher. The program has taught me so much, ranging from how to be a follower to how to be a servant. It has been something that I have poured my heart into in a way that will allow me to forever be a part of the program. It has prepared me to be a leader and a man of character in this world, even in the face of unexplainable adversity. It was perfectly fitting to be surrounded during the signing by those guys, because they have been supporting me like that for my whole life and hopefully they would say the same about me,” said Clayberg.
